Windsor Resident Fined $9,000 for Possession of Unmarked Tobacco

Description of Offences: Two counts of possession of unmarked cigarettes for the purpose of sale, under the Tobacco Tax Act

Date of Convictions: July 9, 2018, at the Windsor Provincial Offences Court

Penalties Imposed: Two fines totalling $9,000 were imposed on Abdallah Al-Latif. In addition, the court imposed a 25 per cent victim fine surcharge as required under the Provincial Offences Act.

Background: On November 5, 2014, Ministry of Finance investigators searched a vehicle and discovered 27,200 unmarked cigarettes. A search warrant was also executed the same day which revealed 64,700 unmarked cigarettes. All tobacco products were seized and forfeited.
