Province Supporting Economic Development in Northern Ontario

Ontario's government is working for the people by supporting tourism infrastructure projects in the Algoma region and Manitoulin Island.

Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines, announced an investment of over $1.3 million. Projects include:

  • $1 million for the Township of Billings to complete infrastructure improvements to the Kagawong waterfront.
  • $282,080 for the City of Elliot Lake to improve its tourism information area, known as The Trailhead, local tourism information services, and to expand and redevelop the boat launch area located on the shore of Elliot Lake.
  • $25,000 for the Municipality of Wawa to build new infrastructure for the Wawa Drag Races, allowing the event to be held in one central location.

"Tourism is vital to many communities across the north," said Minister Rickford. "With these investments, we are helping attract visitors, create good jobs and modernize infrastructure - sending a strong signal to the world that Northern Ontario is open for business and open for jobs."
