Inquest Date into the Death of Christine Harpell Announced

Dr. Paul Dungey, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Kingston Office, today announced that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Christine Harpell.

Ms. Harpell, 33, died in hospital on February 10, 2017, after being transferred from the Quinte Detention Centre. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.  

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Ms. Harpell's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths.

The inquest is expected to last two days and hear from approximately eight witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at the Superior Court of Justice, 97 Thomas St., Napanee. Dr. Geoffrey Bond will preside as inquest coroner and Monica Heine will be counsel to the coroner.
