Inquest into the Death of Rui-Filipe Nabico Announced

Dr. Bonnie Burke, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, announced today that an inquest will be held into the death of Rui-Filipe Nabico.

Mr. Nabico, 31, died in hospital on November 4, 2016, after collapsing during an altercation with police. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.  

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Nabico's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths.

Details regarding the date and location will be provided at a later date when the information becomes available. Dr. Bob Reddoch will preside as inquest coroner and Michael Blain will be counsel to the coroner.
