New Date for Inquest into the Death of Michael Lavigne Announced

Dr. Bonnie Burke, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, today announced that a new date for the inquest into the death of Michael Lavigne has been scheduled.

Mr. Lavigne, 56, died on September 9, 2014, from injuries sustained while working in excavation at a construction site. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Lavigne's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths.

The inquest is expected to last three days and hear from approximately seven witnesses.

The inquest will now begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2019, at Courtroom B, Coroner's Court, Forensic Services and Coroner's Complex, 25 Morton Shulman Ave., Toronto. Dr. David Eden will preside as inquest coroner and Liesha Earle will be counsel to the coroner.
