Inquest Date into the Death of John James "Jimmy" MacDonald Announced

Dr. Paul Dungey, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Kingston Office, today announced that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of John James "Jimmy" MacDonald.

Mr. MacDonald, 55, died in hospital on July 27, 2015, of injuries sustained in an altercation at Collins Bay Penitentiary. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. MacDonald's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths.

The inquest is expected to last two days and hear from approximately six witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at the Superior Court of Justice, 97 Thomas St. E., Napanee. Dr. Bob Reddoch will preside as inquest coroner and Michael Blain will be counsel to the coroner.
