Inquest into the Death of Patrick Stoyka Announced

Dr. Karen Schiff, Regional Supervising Coroner for West Region, Hamilton Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Patrick Stoyka.

Mr. Stoyka, 27, died in hospital on January 27, 2018, while in police custody. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.  

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Stoyka's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths.

Details regarding the date and location will be provided at a later date when the information becomes available. Dr. Jennifer Tang will preside as inquest coroner. Mark Dean will be counsel to the coroner.
