Inquest into the Death of John James "Jimmy" MacDonald Announced

Dr. Paul Dungey, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Kingston Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of John James "Jimmy" MacDonald.

Mr. MacDonald, 55, died in hospital on July 27, 2015, of injuries sustained in an altercation at Collins Bay Penitentiary. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.  

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. MacDonald's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths.

Details regarding the date and location will be provided at a later date when the information becomes available. Dr. Bob Reddoch will preside as inquest coroner and Gerard Laarhuis will be counsel to the coroner.
