New Case Management Master Appointed to Ottawa
The Honourable Caroline Mulroney, Attorney General for Ontario, has announced the appointment of a new case management master to the Superior Court of Justice in Ottawa, effective December 5, 2018.
Case Management Master Alexandre Kaufman was called to the bar in 2003. An experienced legal practitioner, his expertise extends to civil litigation, criminal prosecution and teaching at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law and Algonquin College. Most recently, Master Kaufman acted as senior counsel in civil litigation at the federal Department of Justice.
Master Kaufman has contributed to three books and published several articles with respect to arbitration. Fluent in four languages, he has also delivered presentations in English and French to the Advocates Society, Toronto Lawyer's Association and Association des juristes d'expression français de l'Ontario, among others.
Case management masters are provincially appointed judicial officers who have the authority to hear and determine certain matters in civil cases, including motions, pre-trials and case conferences. Masters and case management masters may also adjudicate construction lien trials, as well as mortgage and general references, provide dispute resolution services, and serve as registrars in Bankruptcy under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act.
